I must wonder how many people have ever stopped to think what a godsend this whole Internet thing is to those folk who are either ambulatory or otherwise shutins¸ Regardless of a person’s physical limitations and condition‚ the mind is still intact¸ A person of normal intelligence can watch only so much daytime television before the brain starts to atrophy¸ And yes‚ while reading is a joyful and rewarding endeavor‚ there is a limit to just how much of one’s time can be devoted to it¸ Then along comes this thing referred to as "The ’Net¸" The idea that a person can sit confined in his or her home and roam all around the globe did not come into existence until just recently¸ Imagine someone telling predicting just a few short years ago that we would soon be able to sit at our computer and chat with a room full of people representing virtually every corner of the planet‚ send mail for instant delivery to anyone anywhere‚ make airline and hotel reservations‚ watch movie clips of all descriptions‚ listen to every kind of music known to man‚ read the current edition of every major newspaper in the world‚ gaze at more beautiful women than was even known to exist‚ buy both health and life insurance policies absolutely hassle free‚ see satellite photos that are only minutes old‚ check the weather around the globe‚ play virtually any kind of game ever invented‚ actually gamble with real money inside a real casino‚ make friends who are closer and more significant than those in real life‚ look at the street map of any city of any size in the US‚ and then click onto a real live strip show just to round out the day¸ A person making such a suggestion would have been thought to be either insane or seriously drugged¸ So perhaps today’s internet reality is nothing more than the realization of a druginduced hallucination first experienced in the 60’s or 70’s!? Whatever it is the result of‚ the end result is a significantly more meaningful life for many forgotten folk¸
