Right now‚ my favorite song is "Roller Coaster of Love‚" covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers¸ When the song first came out‚ in the seventies‚ I was in high school‚ in a rock band‚ and believed that the only songs worth listening to were socially relevant or somehow original in content or form¸ I didn’t think music could just be fun¸ It wasn’t until the early 80s‚ while hosting a party‚ someone put one of the first two B­52’s records on and it was so much fun to listen and dance to¸ It changed the whole way I looked at music¸ Since then‚ I’ve been an avid listener of alternative rock‚ even though most of my friends‚ many of them musicians‚ have long­since abandoned the format¸ I have heard so many fun things since then‚ with "Roller Coaster" being the current fave¸ Maybe it’s the total tongue­in­cheek delivery and camp feel of the tune‚ but it’s so cool¸ Flea‚ the bass player (me‚ too) is just the best¸ He knows when to lay down the groove and when to show some flash¸ Though I stopped playing years ago‚ I like to think if I had worked at it‚ I could have developed into the kind of player he is¸ Anyway‚ that’s my essay¸ Thanks for reading¸
