I decided to write down my opinions about the countrys current tax code¸ During the 1700s the colonies were overtaxed and oppressed¸ I feel that the U¸S¸ is in a similar position in 1996¸ According to economists it takes the average American until May to begin working for his or herself¸ That does not even account for the taxation on a local level¸ Lets say for example that the average American makes $50K each year¸ About $15K is going to go towards Federal tax and Social Security¸ Then some states impose an unreal state tax of up to 9% without exemptions for clothing and food¸ Of the $35K you have left you can pay up to another $3¸5K in state sales tax¸ Some states have their own income tax¸ My point is that by the time we get done paying our taxes social security and state taxes we may be left with as little as $24K for ourselves¸ I believe that we have a responsibility to do as much as we can to support ourselves¸ We can contact our legislators and tell them how we feel¸ (each contact represents 2500 people in their polls)¸ The tradition however is less pleasant¸ Instead of Americans finding a "good job" and staying employed for a lifetime we are moving from job to job with a decrease in pay with most career changes¸ We can do one other thing¸¸¸¸¸ many people have resorted to starting their own home businesses and supplementing their income¸ It is ulitmately up to us how we succeed in life not someone elses responsibility¸ Americans need to take action in their lives instead of letting life decide its outcome for them¸
One other thing that bothers me and then I will sign off¸ What is the big deal with racism?? I am a white male and do not consider myself a racist¸ I try to treat everyone fairly and with respect¸ Why cant everyone else do the same?? I have seen black haters and white haters and cant figure out what they expect to accomplish by being so negative¸ I think that the reason whites and blacks (and other races) have problems getting along is from the differences in our cultures not the color of our skins¸ When I am in a large group of blacks I am uncomfortable not because I fear theft or bodily harm but because blacks for example have a different culture a different language and in some cases an unfamiliar way of life¸ I fear not being able to communicate not being able to relate to my surroundings¸ I suppose that blacks must feel the same way when they are outnumbered in a group of whites¸ If both sides can just realize what it is that makes them uncomfortable maybe we could understand each other much better¸ But then of course there are those on both sides that are too full of hatred to come to terms with the reality that we all face: We are here TOGETHER on this shrinking planet and we will be forced to get along or face racial wars that could only result in genocide¸
