Around the late 1980¹s the word alternative began being used to describe music that didn¹t quite fit into any one musical category¸ By now Alternative music has defined its own category¸ Today when you hear about some new alternative band you can usually predict the type of image the band will project and often the way they will sound¸ Dark Disco Club is a band that is anything but predictable and offers a truly unlabelable sound¸
It all started in the summer of 1994 when Joe Light created some weird tapes full of odd almost obnoxious sounds played in nearly random order¸ Something about the sheer anarchy of these tapes caught the ear of one of Lights¹ close friends; Joe Rose¸ Almost immediately after hearing them Rose offered Light the opportunity to take all that noise one step further¸ Light accepted and so began Dark Disco Club¸
Using Roses¹ computer along with plenty of stolen sound software the two began piecing together samples and recording any instruments they could manage to play¸ Soon enough there were actual songs (or at least parts of songs) instead of just noise¸
At first the songs generally sounded very abrasive; being mostly guitardriven and loaded with tons of sampled bits of radio television and pretty much anything else¸ But over the last two years the bands arsenal has grown to include an even broader range of musical influence¸ Everything from the intense overdriven two minutes of Quality Time(the bands first single) to the beautiful aural anxiety of No Such Thing As A Closet Monster
Though the band may not attempt to perform these songs live anytime soon thier recordings are a mustlisten for anyone who is interested in anything other than the same old run of the mill top 40 socalled Alternative musical mainstream¸
