The news media has a huge impact on our lives¸ I noticed the other day that the news was at least as much opinion as it was fact¸ I think this is partly because the news shows must compete for money‚ like the rest of us¸ The government (FCC) can change that‚ if they want¸ First‚ the FCC should mandate a change that no advertizing can be shown fifteen minutes before or after a news show and that no advertizing can be shown during a show¸ Second‚ product names or brand names can only be used if they relate to the news item presented¸ this will remove the money competition from the news¸ Of course you will ask‚ ’How will the news shows pay their bills?’ The FCC must also mandate that a percentage of all revenues a broadcaster receives must be used exclusively to finance news presentations¸ This will force the stupid sitcoms and soaps to pay for something worthwhile¸ The ’news’ people may loose some of their glory and status but for the first time in years they will be able to practice their career‚ journalism¸ That could change the world!
