ach seems much more desirable¸
One way of solving the problem was formulated by our "Founding
Fathers"namelythe democratic republic we call the U¸S¸A¸ The ideal
was that each of its citizens could exercise as much freedom as was
congruent with the rights of other citizens¸ A good example is the old
saying"Youre right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins¸"
By voluntarily limiting ones desires that encroach on the rights of
others a practical way is found for maximizing the freedom of all¸
This seems to me to be the most rational and least destructive
solution to the problem¸ Of courseit depends on the idea that human
beings are always or even usually rational( a debatable pointat
best)¸
